Awa Hikoi: The River Journey documents a unique journey towards wellness. In late 2004, a group of Maori Mental Health consumers started a three-day canoe trip through the upper reaches of New Zealand's Whanganui River.

Ko Whanganui Te Awa: From the River documents the same group of Maori mental health consumers from Awa Hikoi: The River Journey as they travel to Phoenix, Arizona for two weeks.

Film-maker Jim Marbrook would happily admit that he owes a lot to Genesis Potini. The Gisborne man, who died suddenly last year, was the subject of Marbrook's documentary Dark Horse, which won Best Feature Documentary at the inaugural DOCNZ International Documentary Festival in 2005.
