25th Annual Rosalynn Carter Georgia Mental Health Forum to Address a National Vision for Transforming Mental Health and Substance Use Care and Access to Care in Georgia

First Virtual Georgia Mental Health Forum Includes Expert Panels
and New Interactive Sessions

ATLANTA (May 17, 2021) — The Carter Center is convening its 25th Rosalynn Carter Georgia Mental Health Forum on May 20-21. This free virtual event explores pressing mental health issues relevant to Georgia and the country.

Participants who register below can ask questions to our expert panelists and meet other members of the public interested in mental health and substance use issues.

The forum will include an introduction to the Unified Vision for Transforming Mental Health and Substance Use Care, a road map developed by 14 leading mental health advocacy organizations and professional associations to engage the federal government, governors, and key elected officials in 50 states to accelerate effective mental health as the nation struggles with the mental health impacts of COVID-19.

One panel, “Guardianship in Georgia,” addresses the usage of evidence-based assessment tools to ensure adequate support while preserving individual rights. Given the urgency of addressing mental health care for youth and adolescents, one panel focuses on best practices for returning to school and ensuring that prevention and early intervention services are available. A full agenda is below.

The past year marks an increase in mental health and substance use issues caused or exacerbated by the pandemic and an increased awareness in the need to prioritize action for behavioral health. The Carter Center will participate as a founding partner in the first-ever Mental Health Action Day on May 20 as more than 800 brands, nonprofits, government agencies, and cultural leaders, including many who work in and across Georgia, are coming together to empower their employees, audiences, and consumers to take mental health actions to support and maintain their mental health.

The Rosalynn Carter Georgia Mental Health Forum, established in 1995, is held each May to address timely mental health policy issues facing the state. Service providers in Georgia, policymakers, advocates, media, and consumers of mental health services are invited to participate in discussions on diverse topics. The event was canceled last year due to the pandemic.
