Four-Poster Bed Designed by Jimmy Carter among Carter Center Auction Highlights

ATLANTA — A mahogany four-poster bed designed by former U.S. President Jimmy Carter and created by master furniture maker Andrew Reid is among more than 150 items to be auctioned on June 24 to benefit the not-for-profit Carter Center. Proceeds will support the Center's work to advance peace and health across the globe.

President Carter and his wife, former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, will join invited friends and supporters for the auction and other activities during a four-day retreat June 21-25 near Lake Tahoe, California. Anyone can take part in the auction by bidding online or by fax or proxy (see bidding information below).   

Bidders have a chance to win a one-week escape to a private villa on the banks of the Ayung River in Bali, Indonesia. They also have the opportunity to purchase a collection of mementos from George Lucas’ Skywalker Ranch, which includes three bottles of Skywalker Vineyard wine and framed concept art from “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.”

The auction includes fine art, autographed memorabilia, a private Hollywood film screening — even some vintage cameras that belonged to President Carter

Among the more notable items are:

• Three signed giclée prints of paintings by President Carter
• A National Geographic expedition to the Galapagos Islands
• Guitars signed by Van Halen and Elton John
• A hand-turned Moulthrop bowl made from a tulip poplar on the Carter family farm
• A silk screen titled “Imagine Peace” signed by the artist, Yoko Ono
• A Jerome Lawrence original painting titled “Beethoven’s Fourth (of July)”
• An oil painting of a cloud over the Jimmy Carter Boyhood Farm, painting by Stephen Reynolds, husband of Carter grandchild Sarah Elizabeth
• A milo tree wooden bowl by noted artist Mike Snagg
• A private concert by Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul & Mary
• Memorabilia from the 1988 Democratic National Convention, including President Carter’s navy-blue convention blazer and a voting machine used at the event
• A framed and autographed photo of five first ladies, including Mrs. Carter
• A commemorative flag flown over the U.S.S. Constitution in honor of President Carter’s birthday in 2016
• A sterling silver and sapphire pendant and earrings crafted by Debra Lynn Gold
• A painting of President Carter teaching Sunday School by American impressionist James Richards

Since its inception, Carter Center Weekend auctions have raised more than $24 million to support the Center's work. Last year’s highest bid was for an original Jimmy Carter oil painting, which sold for $750,000.
