Responding to a joint initiative of The Carter Center and International IDEA to strengthen cooperation relations between the Andean countries and the United States, approximately 40 citizens of these countries met in Atlanta on Feb. 23-24, 2010.
During the meeting, participants analyzed key challenges in relations among these countries and the possibility of establishing a pluralistic, unofficial forum to analyze these challenges and other issues involving reciprocal relations, with no topic off limits.
Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter hosted the meeting, and one session featured informal dialogue and exchange of ideas with the deputy assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere affairs.
As a result of this initial meeting, the participants agreed to gather again in Lima, Peru, in early-June to discuss the possible approval of a common agenda.

Respondiendo a una iniciativa conjunta del Centro Carter e Idea Internacional para fortalecer las relaciones y la cooperación entre los países andinos y los Estados Unidos se reunieron en Atlanta durante los días 23 y 24 de febrero aproximadamente cuarenta ciudadanos de estos países.
En el encuentro se analizaron los principales desafíos en las relaciones entre estos países y la conveniencia de establecer un foro plural de análisis de los mismos, en el cual tengan cabida, sin exclusiones y con carácter no oficial, todos los temas concernientes a sus relaciones reciprocas.
El ex Presidente Jimmy Carter ofició de anfitrión de la reunión y en una de las sesiones de trabajo se sostuvo un diálogo informal e intercambio de ideas con el Subsecretario de Asuntos Hemisféricos del Departamento de Estado.
Como resultado de este primer encuentro los participantes acordaron volverse e reunir en Lima al principios de junio, a fin de intercambiar pareceres sobre la eventual adopción de una agenda común.
