ATLANTA….I wish to express my deep sadness for the violence, looting and vandalism that occurred in Bolivia. My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of those killed and injured on the streets of La Paz.

I support President Sanchez de Lozada and his call for calm and dialogue. I urge Bolivia's political leaders, police and citizens to end the violence, respect the constitutional government, and work out their differences in a peaceful manner. The Carter Center stands ready to assist Bolivia whenever needed.

DECLARACION DEL EX-PRESIDENTE DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS JIMMY CARTER SOBRE BOLIVIA

Atlanta….Es mi deseo expresar mi profunda tristeza por la violencia, los saqueos y el vandalismo que ocurrió en Bolivia. Mis oraciones y pensamientos estan con aquellas familias y amigos que fueron heridos o que fallecieron en la ciudad de La Paz.

Apoyo al Presidente Sanchez de Lozada y su llamado a la serenidad y el dialogo. Yo insto a los líderes políticos Bolivianos, miembros de la policia y los ciudadanos que pongan fin a la violencia, que respeten el gobierno constitucional y que resuelvan sus diferencias de manera pacífica. El Centro Carter se mantiene nuestra disposición para apoyar a Bolivia cuando sea necesario.
